FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL SEASON Championship series
In Florida the High school season is in its final weeks with the grand finale being the State Championships. Aruba has 2 swimmers competing for their schools. Andrea van den Berg swims for Cypress Bay in division 4A and Patrick Groters represents University School in Division 1A. At High school meets swimmers are only allowed to swim 2 individual events and 2 relays trying to qualify first for the District meet, then for the Regional meet and ultimately being in the Top 24 in the state to be able to compete at the State Championship.
Andrea competed in the 50 and 100 Free. At the District meet Andrea won the gold medal in the 100 Free, and a bronze medal in the 50. With her Cypress Bay Teammates she won a gold and a silver in the 200 and 400 Free relays. The following week at the Regional Championships Andrea won a bronze medal in the 100 Free, finished 6th in the 50 and with her relays again won the gold in the 400 Free and a bronze in the 200 Free relay. Andrea was not able to qualify for States individually but with her relays Andrea finished in 11th place at States in the 200 Free relay and in 12th place in the 400 Free relay.
Patrick will be swimming his State Championships this coming Saturday. He will compete in the 50 and 500 Free as well as the 200 Medley Relay (backstroke) and 200 Free Relay. At Districts Patrick won the gold medal in the 500 and a silver medal in the 50 Free. Both his relays won a gold medal. His team finished as the runnerup of the meet. At Regionals Patrick continued on a winning streak swimming personal bests (4.37.31 and 21.88) and winning 3 gold (500 & both relays) and a bronze in the 50.
